More of Felicity & A Great Story!

Here are a few more photos of Abby in another "Felicity" that I made while I was testing this design. Speaking of which, I have a great story for you! A few weeks ago when I was just beginning to experiment with this new dress one of Abby's friends was over to visit. Natalie is 11, almost 12 and very much a "difficult tween" when it comes to clothing. Like a lot of girls that age, she is very influenced by trends and what she sees all the other kids wearing and her mom and dad are just beside themselves because she wants to dress in ways that they disapprove of . . . I bet this sounds familiar to a lot of you. Short shorts and tops which are a bit too revealing are right up her alley with the attitude that less is more. Needless to say, she and her mom have had more than there fair share of battles over clothing and her poor mom is just worn down because she is having such a hard time getting Natalie to wear pretty girly things that are not hoochie! Anyway, when she was here visiting she wandered into my studio because she is in love with that room and she saw "Felicity" on the dress form and her face just lit up. She asked me more about the dress and I was in shock, never for a moment thinking that she would ever consider wearing one of my creations. But, I seized the moment and asked her if she wanted to try it on (she and Abby are the same size) and she jumped at the chance. Once she had it on, she was dancing and twirling and had the biggest smile on her face. I was in shock, knowing that this was VERY UNUSUAL for her, like I said she normally only wears shorts and t's these days. When I asked her if she wanted one of her very own, if she promised me that she would wear it she said "yes, yes, yes!!!" She then went on to tell me wear she planned on wearing it . . . "Church, on their family vacation and any other special occasion when something special was happening" all I could think was "wow, and how I wished her mom was here to hear and see this moment". I said, "Well, let's pick out some fabrics!" she told me what colors she wanted and we started pulling prints out from the great wall of fabric and within a few minutes we had come up with the perfect combination. The next question came . .  "When can you have it finished?" Within the next few days I had her dress completed and she and her mom came to pick it up and try it on...it was perfect, and then the next big surprise came when Natalie asked if she could see more of my designs and try on a few more things because she wanted me to make her more clothes. her mom and I nearly fell over! So, the point of this story is that I am thrilled beyond belief that a difficult to dress tween, loves this dress! I am just over the moon that it looks like I've created something that may even appeal to the most challenging young ladies and moms and grand-moms can now breathe a sigh of relief that there is hope again.
