Experimenting With A New Idea For Autumn

I have had a lot of people ask me recently if I am planning anything new for Fall and I have to admit I have been thinking about it. Because most of my designs are more warm weather wear I have been thinking about new pieces to add to my collection which could be worn year round. This little jumper was actually inspired by one of my favorite jumpers I had when I was a little girl. I had recently remembered it and thought I should try to duplicate it. So, this morning I sat down at my machine and created this. This is just the first attempt and I can see room for improvement but it's a good beginning. This one has a loose and easy fit and will be perfect with a simple tank, T-shirt, long sleeved T, turtle neck or even a sweet little blouse. Just imagine this with an adorable classic button down blouse with a peter pan collar and a cozy cardy ...perfect for those chilly days ahead. I have to say it's a little challenging getting in the mood for cold weather sewing when right now the temps are soaring into the hundreds. The bib on this one is meant to be low and it has a placket on the side with little buttons for easy on and offs. Now, I just need to come up with a name for it .... any ideas?

BTW .... What do you think of my new dress form? I finally had to retire the little pink wire one because it's just too small. Abby is getting so tall and that dress form is much more of a size 5 so now it is just a treasured addition to my sewing room and a reminder of all those dresses I have made and displayed on it.

Oh I love it Dawn! And the fabric is perfect for the style. And you know of my passion for dress forms, so of course! Lovely!

How about naming the jumper "Autumn"? I like the side placket too! Is this one of the fabrics you would be able to sell as a kit?

I like the dress form. Has a bit of a more traditional look. Would you be willing to tell where you purchase it?

Thank you Sivje & Laurie!

Laurie~ I am not sure I would be able to get my hands on this fabric or not, but I am sure I could find something similar that would work out just as nicely. But wait this isn't even a pattern yet... i was just experimenting. Believe it or not I found the dress form on Amazon! Is there anything they don't have?

I love it and I love the name Sandy or Nancy. It brings that school girl charm. I think Sandy on Grease would have worn this when she was 8 or so.lol Keep up the good work!I need patterns!!

I can't help but think of Anne of Green Gables... So I'm going to offer the names Anne, Shirley or Diana.

My suggestion is the name Bernadette. What about this? And.... if I'am a winer?.... What will be the prize?... I can't wait for another contest and chance to win one pattern.

Hi Dawn..it's my first visit to your blog site but I have been purchasing and using your patterns for my 4 grandaughters from Buttons n Bows in Houston. That way I can feel and purchase fabric at the same time. I am a smocker and sewer and spend lots of time in my sewing room.
Question is: Where did you purchase your dress from for children? I would love to have one and have searched the internet with no luck.
Thank you,
ps: we too had no kitchen for 3 months. Grill and burner attached!
