Story Telling
These past few weeks seem like a blurr. From the moment the new Sew Beautiful magazine starting arriving in shops and mailboxes across the country my life has changed dramatically. I have been packing and shipping patterns and sending them to every corner of the country. However, I will admit, I am becoming pretty familiar with a lot of zip codes in Alabama, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia. I have also received tons and tons of fantastic emails from so many of you. I have read about your families and love of sewing and I have enjoyed every minute of it. But one of the things that I really love is when the phone rings and I have a new customer on the other end who is so anxious to chat and share a little bit of themselves with me. Just last night I received one of these calls. A very sweet elderly lady called me to say that she had received her issue of Sew Beautiful and when she saw my designs "it was love at first sight". She then went on to tell me how she lives alone and her husband had long since past away and she doesn't get out very much any more and that she relies on friends, family and neighbors to help her out. She doesn't own a computer and in her words "I could never work one of those new fangled contraptions" but she wanted more than anything to have some of my patterns. She dialed up one of her neighbors and asked her to drive her down to the local library so the librarian could help her find my website and from there the librarian was able to locate my phone number so that she could call me. So, last night she did exactly that. Oh, we had the nicest chat and she told me so much about herself and her love of sewing pretty things for little girls and how she just loved my designs and couldn't wait to sew some of them up. But I think the best part of the story is the fact that she doesn't have anyone in particular to sew for. Her grandchildren are all grown up and there were no little girls in her family. But she was thinking of sewing up some pretty dresses and giving them to some of the little girls in her church so they could "dress properly" for Sunday services. I of course was just tickled! I know I have said this before but one of the most rewarding parts of what I do is connecting with so many of you who share the same ideas about how we would like to see our little girls dressing. Thank you so much for taking the time to say "hello" and share with me, I so enjoy hearing your stories.

That's so great.
It is great! It's wonderful to see someone sew for others. With the way the great's are growing I'll be joining her soon. ;-)
What a great and sweet story! From the moment I discovered your patterns, I knew you will touch the hearts of lots of persons who love to sew fro their families and friends! Thanks again for inspiring me.. My daughter just loves your dresses and I am glad to dress her with charming clothes, which recall me of the good old past...
Hi Dawn! This time I just want to ask ; what is the size of your sewing studio. Elizabeth.
Thanks for all your comments.
~Elizabeth, my studio is honestly not very big and to be honest it's getting smaller every day. I think it's approx. 12' x 12' but it's our dining room and it has two entry ways which take up a fair amount of wall space and I have a big window in the front which also takes up a lot of wall space but the light is lovely except first thing in the morning when it's blinding. Now that I have re done my sewing space I love it even more but i wish it were about three times larger to hold everything I would love to have in here.
Hi Dawn,
I've sent you an email. Please let me know if you've gotten it? I fear it may have gotten stuck in a spam filter.
Thanks,
Rett
Hi Rett....
Nope, no email...
Hi Dawn at last I have pulled up the courage to finally leave a comment on your Blog. I discovered your blog one day by doing my blog hopping I landed on yours and was not able to move from it for days lol I mean literally I have been stuck. Everything about you blog just left me with all the motivation and the kick I have been needing for such a long time.
I am a Cloth doll artist, I make two types of Cloth dolls one is what I call Rag Muffins and the other is more serious type. Your patterns reminded me so much of the dresses I make for my Rag Muffins it was so unreal. I had been told so many many times that I make dresses for my dolls that should be for someones little girl.
I just love using lots of material because I like a very full skirt. I know this getting long please bear with me I am so excited and it took a lot of nerves for me to do this. Well, I must mention you and your blog on my Blog and I just have to thank you for sharing your Talents with the world and to let you know that because of this you pulled an artist out of dead block and have me back on track full force. Oh and one more thing you live in my favorite place in the whole world I travel to Williamsburg several times a year I just love it there.
Peace and Blessings
Cheryl...Snatch JOY~!
