Sadness...

This morning the dreaded phone call arrived to let me know that my beloved Grandma had passed away. We have all known this was coming, but somehow even knowing it doesn't prepare you for that news that someone you love so dearly is gone forever. This morning I have spent time both laughing and crying...just remembering. Grandma had such an amazing life and at 94 she was very tired and ready to go. I cannot tell you how much I will miss her, but I take great comfort in knowing that I, alone am her legacy in regards to our common bond in our love of sewing. As strange as this sounds, today I feel even more motivated and energized in regards to my little pattern company. I am so excited to see what this new year brings and all the wonderful possibilities that may come my way...and somehow, I know I have a very special angel sitting on my shoulder guiding me through it all. On our last visit, Grandma and I talked about my plans for the future and her face just lit up when she heard about my plans. I could see in her eyes that she was behind me 150% and that gave me even more confidence to push forward. So even in my sadness, I can see her face and hear her voice and I know she will always be with me.

What a special legacy! I have a similar legacy with my own grandma and great grandma in that I was the only one who took an interest in her sewing. I am also the only one who inherited her hair too. I am happy to say it makes my grandpa smile also. :) Thankfully, now my sister has a love for sewing also. Thanks for pointing this out to me! I really enjoy stopping by your blog!

I am so happy to hear that you were able to experience tears and laughter. It has to be the most special when both are shared with a loved one.

Blessings,
Bethany

There is not much more I can add to all the comments above that are so true. You will miss Grandma. I'm so glad she left you with the sewing inspiration that she did. We have all gained from it.

This seems to be a season of loss. A number of individuals around me are also in a time of waiting with elderly that have health issues.

Praying for God's peace through this time for you and your family.

I can't even begin to express my gratitude for all your heartfelt wishes. This has been a very difficult day filled with highs and lows. Even though I am not in New York right now with my family I have talked with them several times throughout the day to get updates and check to see how everyone id fairing. Even in our sadness, mom and I have come up with several wonderful ideas to honor my grandmother and I hope to make some of these ideas come to life in the future. Of course, they all revolve around our shared passion for sewing. These next weeks and months will be very difficult for all of us but just knowing she is in a much better place give me peace of mind and I know she is with me.

Oh Dawn, I am so sorry for your loss. You were truly blessed to have such a wonderful, close relationship with your grandma and I know your last visit together is something you will always cherish. She must have been so proud of you and all that you'd accomplished. She left you a wonderful legacy that you will also be able to share with your daughter.
