Our First Big Homeschooling Project

As our first science unit Elliott requested that we study the solar system. We decided to make a model of it in Paper Mache' to suspend from the ceiling in the boys room. OMG we had so much fun, but it was super messy! Today we started with the sun. We talked about the sun, drew pictures of it and even watched a DVD that I found at the library about it. Hopefully it will be dry tomorrow so we can paint it and then hang it up in their room. Then on to Mercury. Elliott and Abby were really enjoying our lesson yesterday and so was I. I really think I am going to love Homeschooling. I asked Abby if she thought she wanted to go to school or stay home with Elliott and I a do home school next year and so far she is much more in favor of staying home with us. However, I am sure she will change her mind many times between now and then. Even Oliver is getting into it with us. When he came home from school he was very happy to sit down with us and work on our project and talk about the solar system. He was even sharing all kinds of interesting things with Elliott that he had learned in school. We had such a great time, and it was wonderful to see all the kids working together cooperatively on a school project.

Thanks so much Cortni! We had so much fun making our sun. Now we just have the nine planets with their moons, an asteroid belt and maybe even a comet. We'll have to wait and see. Oh, we are also going to add a gazillion glow-in-the-dark stars to complete the look.
