I've Never Spent So Much Time On A Dress!!!!

Before I even begin to tell you the story behind this dress, I wanted to thank each and every one of you who left such heartfelt comments and sent emails about our family's loss. These past few days have been difficult, but I instantly knew the best way I could feel closer to Grandma was to start a new sewing project...however, this time I wanted to do something extra special. I wanted to create something that she would have loved and that reminded me of her, which meant lots of detail...Grandma loved details and delicate hand sewing. So, I set forth on re-designing one of my all time favorite dresses..."Natalie"! With this dress I added bands of a different fabric within the skirt and also added a full sash instead of the original which has the sash ties coming out from the sides. Then...the fun started! Dozens of little Yo yo flowers with button centers, "leaves" fashioned from some adorable bias tape that I had, sweet little flowers made from rick rack with pearl centers, the vine created from green rick rack mixed with a darker green embroidery floss to add interest and texture and finally little pearl beads subtly scattered and all of this was hand sewn!!!! It took me three days on and off to make this beauty and I have to say that "I have Never spent that much time making any dress before!" but I think the results were well worth the effort. When I first came up with this idea I actually thought..."People are really going to like this one...especially with Spring around the corner!" So, I documented the entire process and yes, this is going to be a new pattern. Filled with detailed information on how to make all the changes from "Natalie" as well as all the instructions on how to do all the embellishing and yes, I am even going to show you how to make the flowers and leaves. So, meet "Miranda"!

Laura, you crack me up! Yes, I was a little inspired by Kari's book and wanted to make a "Sewing with Whimsy" dress ala Dawn.

Dawn, I am just catching up with blog reading and just read about your grandmother. I'm so sorry. Clearly, she has always been a wonderful creative inspiration to you and you are keeping her legacy alive and well. I know her spirit will be with you always.

As for the pink "tribute" dress -- it's absolutely stunning.
