A Bit Of This & That...

Not very much to report...I've been busy rearranging and organizing cupboards, cabinets and closets. Don't you just love it when everything is all neat and organized and looking fabulous. I know I do!!! Our kitchen pantry was in need of yet another overhaul and I decided to take some of the items out of there and move them to another location. Now all my oils, vinegars, sauces and spices have a new home and I have more room in the pantry. I just have to go through all the spices and throw out the ones that need refreshing and purchase new ones. But my kitchen is currently in great shape and ready for the fall cooking season.

I also spruced up my baking pantry. I took all those bags (from Trader Joe's) of nuts, dried fruits, chocolate chips, coconut, etc. and put them all into mason jars and I can't tell you what a difference that makes. My baking pantry looks so much nicer and I am sure having everything in sealed glass jars will help keep them fresh longer.

Ugh!...I also steam cleaned the carpet in the family room today. I wont go into the details...but I will say that anyone caught in the house with shoes on is in BIG TROUBLE!!! Summer, 4 kids and all their friends with dirty little bare feet are not a good combo with light colored carpeting!!! But it's all sparkly and clean now!

Next...painting. I am going to be relocating my sewing studio up into the loft soon. There are several reasons for the move but all in all I am really looking forward to my new space. But more on that in a future post. Before I move in I want to give it a color makeover and I'm thinking a bright and sunny yellow. It's just such a bright and happy color who wouldn't be inspired in happy space? I stopped by Home Depot this morning to pick up paint chips so I can decided which shade of yellow works best. Currently I am loving "Pale Daffodil" but I need to go up into the loft and see it in the light up there.

That's about all from here. I still don't have my serger back so this is a good time to concentrate on a few home improvement projects I have been itching to do. Off to get some more stuff done!

I love yellow paint! Just be very careful. We got some good advice from a Paint Rep. at Home Depot once. We wanted a pale yellow in our kitchen to accent the red and green (1940's look). I had to go against all the grain in my to trust him, but he helped me pick out the color. Dawn, it looked like a cream color on the swatch and in the paint can. I was so nervous. He swore up and down that it would be the right shade because yellows can fool the average. (Ever seen those NEON yellow houses and wonder, "What were they thinking!?") So, get some good counsel from a professional if you can. The color is still in my kitchen and I was soooo grateful I didn't pick the other color I *thought* was right because it would have been waaaay too bright. Anyway, have fun! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Thanks so much for the advice April...I am very aware of how tricky yellows can be. Our kitchen is also yellow, actually a very pale golden color and it looked like nothing on the color swatch but in reality it's much brighter. So, I know exactly what you are talking about. I am usually pretty good with colors, but it's one of those things where you just have to see it in the space and see how it reacts with the light before you know if it's the right one...or not! I will be sure to do before and after pics.

I love the pantry, I have a very small kitchen and that would really make things look nice! I haven't followed your blog in a long while and I love the new look. Can you tell me how you did it? Also, I have been a stay at home mom and homeschool mom and this is the first year all mine are in public school...so it has been good, strange, fun, weird...just thought I would share. I have been painting and sprucing up around my house, too. My serger didn't die, it was my embroidery machine! So....I am going without it for a long while until I figure out what I want to be when I grow up! Thanks for a fun lovely blog! Kym
