What's The Matter????

Today the kids and I had a great homeschooling lesson. We started learning about matter. You remember...Solids, liquids and gasses. First we made some homemade butter the old fashioned way by pouring heavy cream into a mason jar and shaking. That was so much fun, but it did take quite a while. However one of the great side effects was the kids got a lot of their wiggles out which is great considering they have been cooped up in the house for days due to the yucky weather. They were just amazed that we made butter simply from shaking cream. I will confess we added a little bit of honey and turned it into Honeybutter which was amazing especially slathered onto a slice of warm homemade bread. I planned that one just right!!! From there we made popsicles...ie liquid into a solid we also melted ice cubes and boiled water. It's amazing what you can do with just a few simple things that you have at home to put together an amazing lesson.

Did you add the honey before or after shaking the cream? Sounds like a great series of lessons!

Hi MaryAnne, we added it after it had turned to butter. I have to admit it's super yummy. I think that is something that we will be doing a lot more often.
