I woke up early this morning dreaming about heirloom sewing and couldn't get back to sleep....imagine that! So, I decided to head off to my sewing room and start playing. I grabbed some gorgeous white sateen, some white cotton lace insertion, my pin tuck foot and some vintage antique blue rosebud trim and just started winging-it. I also had my "A-Z of Heirloom Sewing" close by to use as a reference, but to be honest I just kinda figured it out. This is going to be the skirt of a dress I am making for Abby, and I have yet to decide how to do the bodice ...let's just say it a work in progress. The skirt is going to be very full, over 80" around and all this sweet little trim is going on by hand as well as the hem...all done by hand. I am trying to mix machine and hand sewing with this one until I perfect more of my skills. I even practiced my rolling and whipping that Pat showed me how to do the last time I was up to
Chadwick's. I am hoping to go back up to see her this coming weekend so I thought I should have something to show her that I have been working on. I have so much more to learn but I have to say this is so much fun. Over the weekend I paged through old issues of Sew Beautiful and was so inspired to make something extra special. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Usually, when I sew I have a clear idea where it is going to go, but this one is a little different...it's going to be a surprise, even to me!

Hmmmm... I've been thinking of what I might do as a heirloom dress from your patterns too! Just haven't been able to get to it.
What would you think of pintucks for the bodice of your latest creation? Blue trim on the sleeves or in / on the collar / neck / bias?
I am SO waiting to see the finished product!!
