It's American Girl Doll fever around here these days and Abby and I both have it BAD! We recently started doing a unit study on Pioneer Life and we decided to do it using the AG Kirsten stories. Way back when, when I was in my late teens I received my very first AG doll from Santa for Christmas and it was Kirsten. She's been packed away until just recently and Abby fell in love with her. But she said "Mommy, I don't want to mess your doll up." So, we went onto Ebay and found a pre-loved doll who was in pretty rough shape when she arrived. I was ready to pack her up and send her to the AG hospital because her hair was pretty much hopeless. However, the other night I couldn't sleep. . . imagine that! So, I decided to see what I could do to try to fix her. So, Miss K and I stayed up all night doing a very deep spa treatment and after A LOT of patience and love I actually brought her back to almost new! I was so pleased and Abby couldn't believe her eyes the next morning when she saw the new and improved Kirsten. Yet, another thing to add to my mommy resume..."doll repair expert". We've also been collecting Kirsten's accessories off of Ebay and there has been a steady stream of packages arriving daily from every corner of the USA. Needless to say we are having an absolute blast. This morning Abby and I set to work on trying to make some new dresses for Kirsten to add to her wardrobe. Abby picked out these gorgeous prints and mama set to work on sewing up my very first AG outfit. Oh, and now I think I'm hooked. This was so much fun to make and I can't wait to make the next one. Abby already has fabrics picked out and she has requested a Valentines Day dress for Kirsten. The wheels of my imagination are just spinning and I'm going to get started as soon as I finish this blog post. If it turns out cute I will be sure to take a few pics and show you what I came up with!
All this is leading up to Abby's Big Birthday celebration that we are planning at American Girl Place up in DC in a few weeks. We are beyond excited and saving our pennies to do it up big! 9 is going to be a great age and I can't wait!

My daughter has Samantha and Addy! When she was growing up it was so much fun to make her dolls dresses that matched the ones I made for MK. Now that she is grown she doesn't play dolls anymore but they still get their outfits changes regularly.
How fun!
Last year at Christmas our grandaughters wanted dolls that they could dress up to look like they did. The girls were 4 and 5 so far to young to appreciate the real AG Doll so grandad and I set out to find generic 18" dolls with brown hair and brown eyes like they have. We had a great time making doll beds clothes bedding ect for their dolls and were so excited for Christmas morning to arrive so they could see what Santa had brought them. I think it will be a real treat when they are Abby's age and one day visit the AG store and own a real AG doll. Children make the world so much fun!
We love American Girls too!! I've seen on Pinterest several ideas for restoring out of control doll hair. One idea was to brush a fabric softener mixture on the doll's hair. I've never tried it, but my youngest daughter may give me reason to put that idea to the test!
I have been living in AG land, also. My 9 year old has been doing a literature club with other girls and I have made her a matching outfit for each time period. It has been a blast.
What fun! Kirsten was my daughter's first AG doll and we still have her, with all of her outfits, table and chairs, etc. I have a doll corner set up in the playroom for the granddaughters, opposite the boys corner full of trucks, bugs, transformers and the like. The dolls are much more fun in my opinion. I will always love dolls and really enjoy it when the girls park in their girl-world corner and comb McKenna's hair, or put Molly's hat on Kirsten, or whatever they feel like mix-and-matching. Have a ball at the AG Place. It's SO much fun! Just want to add that the original Kirsten did have a time with her hair. Their "hair products" just weren't what they are today.
I Love the AG dolls my daughter also studied the different time periods through the dolls! One thing I did though was when I made her doll a dress I usually made her a matching one she loved it! Especially going to AG place you will definitely want matching outfits! She's now 23 her dolls are still in her room waiting for her kids! Matching outfits are packed she's expecting in July I'm hoping for a girl!!!!
